App not showing up in App Store search? A step-by-step check

By Gajendra Singh Rathore ยท October 29, 2026

Your app is live and the link works, but searching the App Store doesn't find it, sometimes not even by its exact name. It's one of the most common things indie developers ask about. Most of the time the cause is one of nine things, and three questions narrow it down.

Start here: three questions

1Does your App Store link open the app's page?
NoIt isn't live in that country yet. Check that it's released and available there.
YesIt's live. Go to question 2.
2Is it more than 72 hours since you first released it?
NoProbably indexing. Wait, then check again.
YesGo to question 3.
3Search its exact name in another country, or on someone else's iPhone. Does it show up?
Shows for othersLook at your own device: storefront, compatibility, Screen Time.
Some countries onlyCheck availability and give the missing ones time.
NowhereCheck the name can be matched, then contact Apple.

For question 3, the free App Store rank checker searches your app's name in 10 countries at once.

How long a new app takes to appear

  1. ReleaseYour link works straight away.
  2. Within a dayMost apps can be found by name.
  3. Up to 72 hoursStill normal. Don't change anything yet.
  4. After a weekSomething's wrong. Work through the causes below.

Apple doesn't publish an indexing time. These are the timings developers commonly report on the Apple Developer Forums.

Missing and ranking low aren't the same

Before you assume search can't see your app, check where it actually ranks. Even a brand name isn't always first. Our app Orate was released on October 9, 2026; three weeks later, searching "orate" put it at #1 in seven of ten countries, #2 in the UK and Japan, and #4 in Canada.

If you're #4, people can still find you. If you're not in the top 200 in any country after a week, that's the problem this guide is for.

Orate's rank for "orate"
  • United States#1
  • India#1
  • Australia#1
  • Germany#1
  • France#1
  • Brazil#1
  • Spain#1
  • United Kingdom#2
  • Japan#2
  • Canada#4

The nine usual causes

  1. It's brand new

Search indexing can lag behind release by hours, sometimes a few days.

CheckGive it 72 hours after your first release before worrying.

  2. It isn't released yet

Approved isn't the same as live. With manual release, the app waits until you press Release.

CheckApp Store Connect: the version should say Ready for Distribution.

  3. It isn't sold in that country

Apps only appear in the storefronts you've chosen.

CheckApp Store Connect: Pricing and Availability.

  4. The searcher is in another storefront

Search uses the country of the Apple Account, not where the phone is.

CheckSettings, your name, Media & Purchases, View Account, Country/Region.

  5. The device can't run it

The App Store can leave out apps a device can't install, such as an iPad-only app on an iPhone or a newer minimum iOS version.

CheckCompare your minimum iOS version and supported devices with the searcher's.

  6. Screen Time hides it

Content restrictions can hide apps above the allowed age rating.

CheckSettings, Screen Time, Content & Privacy Restrictions.

  7. The name is hard to match

Unusual spellings, joined words and punctuation can stop a name search matching.

CheckSearch variants: with and without spaces, quotes, the subtitle's words.

  8. It's there, just low

Common words can push even a well-named app below the first screens.

CheckCheck whether you're in the top 200, not just the top 10.

  9. Something is wrong on Apple's side

Some developers report apps missing for weeks with nothing wrong in App Store Connect.

CheckCheck App Store Connect messages, then contact Apple.

If you need to contact Apple

If the link works, the app has been available for more than a week, and it doesn't appear for its exact name in any country, open a case with Apple Developer Support. Developers who got a useful answer included:

Expect to be asked to wait at first. Reply with what you've already checked so the case moves on.

Know the day your app drops out of search. Rankmint checks your ranks every day in 20 countries, including for your own name, and shows what changed after each release. Launching November 5, 2026.

Questions

How long does it take for a new app to show up in App Store search?

Usually within a day of release, and up to about 72 hours is normal. Apple doesn't publish a time. If your app still can't be found by its exact name after a week, check the causes in this guide and then contact Apple Developer Support.

Why can I find my app but my friend can't?

Usually it's their device. Search uses the country of their Apple Account, the App Store can leave out apps their iPhone or iOS version can't run, and Screen Time restrictions can hide apps above an age rating.

My app is approved. Why isn't it in the App Store?

Approval doesn't always mean release. If you chose to release manually, the version waits as Pending Developer Release until you release it. Check that its status is Ready for Distribution and that it's available in the countries you're searching.

Should I resubmit my app to fix search?

Not as a first step. Check availability, status and the name first, and give a new release at least 72 hours. If it's missing everywhere after a week, contact Apple Developer Support before changing anything.
